Crispy Chicken with Sweet Chili Sauce

Dear readers, today I’m excited to share one of my favorite recipes: crispy chicken with sweet chili sauce. Like many sweet-and-salty chicken dishes, it is inspired by both Chinese cuisine and American cuisine.

This dish is not only easy to prepare, but also packed with flavor and perfect for sharing. I am sure it will delight you and your guests at family dinners or friendly get-togethers.

The secret to perfectly crispy chicken is the coating, namely my universal batter created for ultra-crispy chicken fritters.

One batter, five different flavors

The other key element is the homemade sweet chili sauce, which adds a sweet-and-spicy kick. It is quick to make and lets you adjust the sugar and heat to suit your taste. Striking the right balance between sweetness and spice is what makes this recipe shine.

Of course, if you are short on time (I totally understand), feel free to use a store-bought sweet chili sauce.

Tips for perfect sweet chili chicken

  1. Use a cooking thermometer to monitor the oil temperature. This ensures the chicken fries to a golden, crispy finish without burning.
  2. For an exotic twist, stir a few chopped fresh coriander leaves or Thai basil into your homemade sweet chili sauce.
  3. Serve your crispy sweet chili chicken with white rice, stir-fried vegetables, or a crunchy salad for a balanced, delicious meal.

This crispy sweet chili chicken was a huge hit with the kids, they practically licked their plates clean and asked for seconds 😋 The sweet and spicy sauce was just mild enough for them, and the crunch stayed perfect even after tossing.

This crispy sweet chili chicken was a huge hit, my husband couldn’t stop talking about how crunchy it stayed even after tossing in the sauce. He’s already asked if I can make it again next weekend 😊

Made this for dinner and swapped the honey for maple syrup since that’s what I had on hand. The sauce still thickened up beautifully and the sweet heat was even better than expected 😊

This looked absolutely gorgeous on the plate, with that glossy sweet chili glaze and golden crunch like something straight out of a food magazine. Had to snap a quick photo before digging in 🙂
