Yep, as an American myself, I’m sharing my mom’s recipe—the one I grew up eating. Consider yourself warned: this American classic is not only easy, it’s seriously addictive.

This is the best cookie recipe you’ll ever make! No fancy ingredients, no looong chilling time, none of that.

Just simple, incredibly delicious chocolate chip cookies: soft and chewy, fully baked, and perfect every time!

Another all-time classic: cinnamon rolls

Everyone needs an American cookie recipe in their repertoire, and this one is mine. You know me—I try not to be the kind of blog that tells you a whole life story before giving you the recipe. But this one has a special place in my heart (and my stomach) because it’s my American mom’s recipe, and I’ve been eating these cookies since I was tiiiiny. A bit like my fried Oreos, but those are next-level sweet.

I really hope this recipe becomes hugely popular and spreads across France, because most cookies, even bakery ones, are just…meh.

Honestly, once you’ve made this recipe properly, you’ll never want to buy a fancy cookie for €3.50 a piece again. That’s been the case for plenty of people around me, anyway.

How to Make Cookie Dough

Start by mixing the flour, salt, and baking soda. This step is important because you want the baking soda evenly distributed throughout the mixture. By the way, if you want dough that’s safe to eat raw, follow my raw cookie dough recipe instead.

Next, in another bowl, beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla extract—ideally with a mixer. Even when softened beforehand, butter can still be tricky to incorporate by hand, and you want a smooth, creamy mixture. Beat in the eggs one at a time.

Next, gradually combine the two mixtures; again, a mixer makes the job easier.

Finally, add the famous chocolate chips. You can absolutely use ordinary baking chocolate chopped into small pieces if you like; it costs much less.

Portioning the Cookies

Once the cookie dough is ready, it’s time to portion and roll it. Try to make the balls roughly the same size so the cookies bake evenly. But honestly, don’t overthink it.

It’s worth noting that the dough can be frozen ahead of time; that’s what my mom often does. That way, cookies are available allll the time, whenever the craving hits hehe.

Notes

It’s normal for the cookies not to look fully baked when you take them out. That’s the trick to keeping them from overbaking.
My mom freezes cookie dough by shaping it into logs and wrapping it in plastic wrap. It keeps and thaws very, very well in the fridge.
Baking soda is not the same as baking powder; they are different leaveners, and using the wrong one will greatly affect the final result.
