This recipe lives up to its name, inspired by the famous teriyaki chicken, a classic of Japanese cuisine, this ultra-simple dish is ideal for a quick meal that feels like “restaurant quality”.
You can choose to eat it quickly, or carefully slice it in the manner of “Peking duck”. This transforms a simple recipe into “impress your date in 15 minutes”. A bit like my love noodles in a way.

Ingredients for the happiness chicken
Dark soy sauce and light soy sauce: both are essential elements of the dish. YES, you can use only light soy sauce but well, you lose nuance in an already very simple dish. I have a full article on the difference between the two
Shaoxing wine: This also brings an important nuance to the dish. If you want to substitute it, you can find out how here
Oyster sauce: No, it doesn’t taste like oysters. However, it’s delicious in marinades and sauces. If you want to learn more, click here
Tips for successful comfort chicken
Don’t stress, prepare everything in advance (the sauce, that is). Then, be patient to allow caramelization to occur when covering the chicken, same for the initial “searing”. You need to be patient on each side to ensure it browns well.
What to serve with comfort chicken?
I like to simply serve it with white rice, it contrasts nicely with the beautiful color of the chicken. But you can choose to accompany it with fried rice

Simple vegetable noodles can also go well with this dish

The chicken looked absolutely stunning plated over white rice, all glossy and caramelized like something straight out of a food magazine 😍 Had to snap a photo before digging in!
Je ne suis vraiment pas une grande cuisinière, donc j’étais surprise de voir le poulet aussi bien caraméliser et briller comme au resto. Servi avec du riz blanc comme conseillé, c’était délicieux et j’étais super fière du résultat 🙂
This turned out to be the ultimate comfort food, with that glossy caramelized sauce giving total cozy vibes on a rainy day 😊 Served it over white rice and it felt like a warm hug in a bowl.
